'Tis the season to access lakeshore invasives
A comprehensive, multi-year plan of attack to eradicate an invasive weed species in the Chisago Lakes area,  is being put together this winter;  but the Center Lakes Association took some necessary action last weekend  to begin the phragmites offensive.  A couple dozen volunteers showed up on the shoreline near the county Government Center on North Center Lake Saturday morning,  to weed-whack and snip their way through a massive grove of phragmites.

Citizenship takes a group effort
When Immanuel Church in Almelund ran an ad looking for a music director four years ago, two applicants responded. One asked for too much money and that left Momoh Freeman (pronounced moe-moe).  According to one of the hiring committee members Norm Peterson, as soon as they heard Momoh play the piano there was no debate.  “We thank God for dropping this man in our church,” Peterson states.

Let's get out and celebrate winter, even if it hasn't happened yet
What an odd, odd winter we have had to date.  So little snow, such high temperatures.  Kind of feels like a Missouri winter so far. Well, if the talking heads on television know their stuff, they say we are headed for a deep freeze.  That will help our community out in getting ready for the 2019 Winter Blast.  Many of you remember the Winter Blast as the Celebration of the Lakes. The name has changed but the fun hasn’t.

The origins of the banana
Do  you remember the commercial jingle, “I’m Chiquita banana and I’ve come to say……?” I am sure the older of us remember it but I don’t think the younger set hasn’t a clue what that’s about. I’m sure you know what the recipes are for today.

Minecraft Day; Library volunteers power-up
Last year, a local home-school family was taking the long drive south of the Twin Cities, to a location in Bloomington, so the siblings could participate in a Minecraft videogaming gathering.  Minecraft is the top-selling PC game by number of all time.  It originated in 2011 as a creation of Swedish game designer Markus Persson.  It’s now developed through Mojang (Microsoft) and can be played on Xbox or Play Station, on a number of devices, phones, or on your desktop computer.

Goodbye to a couple of politicians, hello to new chamber director Katie
This week (and last) city councils and township boards welcomed new faces.  As is with any election, you will see familiar faces stepping down. We have a couple of Mayors that need recognizing. Keith Carlson has served on the city council and as mayor of Lindstrom for nearly 60 years. He looks young for serving that long doesn't he? Obviously I am joking about the years, but Keith has served the city of Lindstrom for a very long time.  I have known Keith for as long as I can remember, and he is a great person. You may not agree with some of his political decisions, but show me a politician that everyone loves.  Keith has been a business owner, a chamber director, and has sat on about a thousand other committees and boards.  Thank you Keith for your dedication to our community.  Congratulations on your retirement.

Plan healthier meals with veggies
I am going to give you a variety of vegetable recipes today. With a wide variety of textures, colors and wonderful flavors, veggies are right at the top when you plan healthier meal lists for your family. Few veggies contain any fat; none contain cholesterol (unless you drench them with sauce or butter.

Start the new year off healthy
Yes, January is here already. The hustle and bustle of the last two weeks has really slowed down, unless you have to return gifts for larger or smaller sizes or if you already have some item that needs to be returned. That’s where gift cards and money come in handy. It was an easy gift selection for 22 grandchildren this year and they were happy about the gift.  Good job, Gramma!
