| Celebration of the Lakes is close, who do I send my check to now? |
We are getting very close to the 2023 Celebration of the Lakes event. Mother Nature has been cooperating as of late so fingers crossed it will take place as scheduled. As I have written in the past, it will take place, and if it has to be modified then so be it, we are hardy souls in Chisago Lakes, we know how to have fun in any situation. Stay tuned to the Press for any updates. As of now - next week is a go - let the temps warm up and the fun begin.

The Highway 61 earth moving equipment you may have observed, is not initiating a housing project— it is wetland restoration work. Contractors will re-grade and improve the hydrology in the area between the Heims Lake outlet and the wetland east of Highway 61 connected to Comfort Lake-Sunrise River.

approves permit for nine dogs;
District 1 opening on county planning commission |
In something of a surprise move— Chisago County commissioners, with the exception of Jim Swenson— took a chance on the people behind an application to house nine dogs on property in Sunrise Township. Their Interim Use Permit was authorized 4-1 last week.

Taylors Falls City Council started off 2023 holding two meetings this month, with a three-hour second meeting Monday night this week to organize. The former membership of the council rarely required more than one meeting per month.

The Wyoming City Council met shorthanded last week and in a very brief meeting approved, minus Mayor Lisa Iverson, soliciting bids for the East Viking Boulevard rebuild and the new bridge.

Chisago County was placed in ash tree EAB quarantine status a couple years ago when a population of Emerald Ash Borers made their way into southernmost Chisago. Emerald Ash Borers (EAB) were first found in the state in 2009 and are in much of the southern third of Minnesota. The EAB typically takes about five years to kill a host tree.

The Chisago City Council welcomed new councilmember Nicole Battles to its ranks at the Jan. 10 organizational meeting. Battles assumes the seat previously occupied by Mark Anderson who chose not file for reelection.

| Center City Council takes action
officially to halt ironworks |
It’s official. The Center City Council voted 5-0 last week to authorize the city attorney to commence litigation to resolve the contested issues surrounding the ironworks business, operating at County Roads 9 and 12. Attorney Ted Alliegro said the specific vote was needed for the record. A court date was not announced.

| Katie's Glen gets split Wyoming Council vote; water fees upped |
With the duty of swearing-in re-elected members Claire Luger and Dennis Schilling taken care of; the Wyoming City Council this month proceeded to unenthusiastically vote to approve a new small lot housing plat. Several neighboring property owners had stated their opposition to the 39-lots proposed on open land east and south from Goodview Park, that will result in losing hundreds of trees. They asked the city to downsize the number, and to retain woodlot that serves as buffer. A citizen also said soils should be investigated for hazardous waste from the site’s former use as a hog farm.

| Vikings loss on me - sorry; pray for cold weather? Yes, this time |
If you are looking for a scapegoat to blame the Vikings’ loss on, (yes that’s exactly what we do around here), look no further. When I wrote last week that I would not be watching the game on Sunday afternoon, I had every intention of following through. But, me being an athlete at the apex of shape, I sprained my ankle bowling in Osceola the night before. Yes bowling folks. To my credit I did bowl a 199 before my age caught up to my skills... So here I sat with ice on my ankle watching the beloved purple (not my ankle— the team). Just like every meaningful game I have watched, it ended in the same Hindenburg fashion. I apologize to you, the state of Minnesota, the team and to my wife, because listening to me had to be worse than nails on a chalkboard.
