Little Falls 61, North Branch 52 Despite some strong defense in the first half against Little Falls, the North Branch girls basketball team lost their edge in the second half and the Flyers went on a big run to win 61-52 on Thursday, December 28.
“We played very good half court defense but really struggled with their full court and half court zone pressure in the second half,” Head Coach Jerome Huselid said. “We turned the ball over way too much and couldn't get comfortable on the offensive end. Most of the points we gave up were off of costly turnovers.
Jillayna Hoppe finished the game with a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Macy Brodin also continued to shoot well from outside, adding 12 points.
North Branch 67, Staples-Motley 48 The Vikings rebounded in a big way in the second game of the tournament. They played a similar first half as the LF game, outscoring the Cardinals 27-20, but this time, the Vikings were the ones that went on a run in the second half, stretching their lead out even further.
“I was very proud of our effort the second day of the tournament,” Huselid said. “I've been telling the girls that we continue to get better while we make several adjustments due to our numerous injuries. We played very good defense and rebounded well against Staples-Motley.”
Hoppe had 14 points and six rebounds, Savannah Linkert had 11 points and Kate Carlson had 10 points for NB.
Hoppe was named to the All-Tournament team for North Branch.
