'Cats dominate Bluejackets
In a season of struggles in the Mississippi 8 Conference, the Chisago Lakes boys swimming and diving team beat Cambridge-Isanti handily on Thursday, January 18 at home.
Through the first three events, the meet was close. Justin Ewert earned first place in the 200 free and Ethan Harris got a first in the 200 individual medley, but C-I was claiming the second and third spots, keeping them within striking distance.
But, when it came down to the 50 freestyle, the ‘Cats gave themselves a little bit of breathing room. Addison Clarin won the event and Javon Ayers and Cameron Bell came in third and fourth, stretching the CL lead to 10 at 36-26.
It remained that way with a win from Ethan Harris in the 100 fly and a second place finish from Storm Opdahl in diving.
When it came to the 100 freestyle, though, the Wildcats essentially sealed the win. Braydon Burds, Jarrett Hawkinson and Jacob Skordahl went one-two-three in the event to stretch an 11 point lead to a 21 point lead.
Eric Braun and Anthony Sagendorf continued the good vibes with a first and second place finish in the 500 free and Clarin won the 100 backstroke for good measure.
By the last event, the Wildcats were swimming in exhibition and enjoy a large lead. They ended up winning 100-83 over the Jackets.
“We got great swims from a lot of kids,” Head Coach Rachel Stauber said. And the divers also executed some great dives. It was overall a great team effort from the guys!”
