CL finishes seventh at state, Mower brothers tumble
The girls alpine ski team didn’t repeat their state championship run from last year, but they still had a wildly successful season.
They finished in seventh place out of eight teams in the Minnesota State High School League state meet at Giants Ridge on Wednesday, February 14.
They got good runs from Hannah Stec and Hannah Janzig, but the field was very competitive this year. Stec was the top finisher, coming in 16th place in the team meet with a time of 1:22.49. Janzig was right behind her with a time of 1:22.63 in 17th place.
Megan Cartier came in 27th place with a time of 1:27.65 and Bailey LeTourneau finished in 28th place with a time of 1:27.87. Alicia Sandberg got down the hill in 1:27.87 in 37th place and Sophie Janzig registered a Did Not Finish (DNF) after an early fall took her out of the running.
Stillwater, who came from CL’s section, won the state championship.
The Mower brothers both struggled in their runs at the state tournament.
Ryan, a senior, didn’t register a time because he got disqualified on his first run when he wiped out and tried to finish his run on one ski.
Jamie fell in his first run, registering a 1:07.38, the slowest time of all those who finished. He rebounded in his second run to put up the 27th fastest time on the blue course, showing his true potential. He finished the course in 41.28 seconds.
