CL suffers first losses of the year

Gentry Academy 6, Chisago Lakes 3
Things looked good for the Wildcats early in their game against Gentry Academy when Justin Lawry scored just 46 seconds into the game, assisted by Thomas Overgaard and Jackson Waltman to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.  But the Stars scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead and never relinquished the lead, beating the Wildcats 6-3.  It was the first loss of the season for the Wildcats.  The game was played at the TRIA Rink – the practice facility for the Minnesota Wild – on Wednesday, December 12.

Jonny Bodell scored at 15:10 of the second period to cut the Gentry Academy lead to 3-2, with assists going to Tate Swanson and Waltman.  But the Stars scored again just 30 seconds later to extend their lead back to two goals.  Ben Johnson scored just over two minutes into the third period to again cut the lead to one goal.  The teams battle back and forth until the Stars scored an insurance goal at the 10:23 mark to go up 5-3.  They added an empty-netter with just under two minutes to go in the game to make the final score 6-3.

Chisago Lakes 4, Pine City 3 (O.T.)
Tate Swanson scored an unassisted goal just 18 seconds into overtime to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead over Pine City at the Pine City Civic Center on Thursday, December 13.  The Wildcats trailed 3-1 going into the third period, but goals by Jackson Waltman and Thomas Overgaard tied up the game and sent it into overtime.

Pine City opened the game with a power play goal midway through the first period.  Dawson Overgaard tied it up with just 11 seconds left in the period, assisted by Chase Mehlhorn.  Pine City scored twice in the second period, with the goals coming just over a minute apart, to give the Dragons a 3-1 lead.  Jackson Waltman scored a 7:30 of the third period, assisted by Swanson and Thomas Overgaard, to cut the lead to 3-2.  And Thomas Overgaard scored the tying goal, un assisted, with just over two minutes to go in regulation.  Swanson’s goal in over time extinguished the fire of the Dragons and their fans.

St. Michael-Albertville 8, Chisago Lakes 1
The St. Michael-Albertville (STMA) Knights scored three goals in the first period on their way to an 8-1 drubbing of the Wildcats last Saturday, December 15 at St. Michael-Albertville Ice Arena.  The Class AA Knights (5-1) outshot the Wildcats 40-19 for the game.  Jonny Bodell scored an unassisted goal just 54 seconds into the second period to cut the Knights’ lead to 3-1, but that was all the offense the Wildcats could muster as STMA just kept scoring.

St. Cloud Cathedral 9, Chisago Lakes 0
It was not a fun trip up to St. Cloud for the Wildcats this past Tuesday, December 18.  The St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders scored six times in the first period on their way to a 9-0 shutout of the Wildcats.

The Crusaders bombarded the Wildcat net with shouts from the get-go.  They outshot the Wildcats 17-2 in the first period, on their way to a 49-11 shot advantage for the game.
