Turek helps North Branch steal a win from St. Michael-Albertville

North Branch 4, Sauk Rapids-Rice 1
Vikings’ leading scorer Cody Croal continued to do what he does best, scoring two goals to lead the Vikings over the Sauk-Rapids-Rice Storm 4-1 Tuesday, December 18 at Chisago Lakes Arena.  The Vikings outshot the Storm 34-24 for the game and Viking goalie Jake Turek stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced to pick up the win.

 Croal scored an unassisted power play goal at 12:17 of the first period to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.  Sauk Rapids tied it up with a power play goal of their own about seven minutes into the second period.  Dawson Johnson scored for the Vikings about four minutes later to put the Vikings up 2-1, assisted by Jake Richards and Roger Thomas.  Croal scored another unassisted goal with just four seconds left in the period to put the Vikings up 3-1.  The Vikings held off the Storm through the third period.  Richards scored an empty-netter at 15:36 to seal the win.  Johnson and Justin Sachs picked up the assists.
North Branch 4, St. Michael-Albertville 3 (O.T.)
Dawson Johnson scored 3:15 into overtime, assisted by Matt Courtright, to give the Vikings a 4-3 win over the St. Michael-Albertville Knights Thursday. December 20 at Chisago Lakes Arena.  The Knights outshot the Vikings 57-32 for the game.  Viking goalie Jake Turek kept his team in the game with an incredible performance, stopping 54 of the 57 shots he faced.
Cody Croal extended his goal-scoring streak to six games with an unassisted goal midway through the first period to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead.  The Knights tied it up just over seven minutes into the second period.  The Vikings took advantage of a power play late in the second period as Jake Richards scored at 15:16 to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead.  Croal and Courtright picked up the assists.

The Knights scored at 10:23 of the third period to tie the game at 2-2.  It looked like the Vikings might have the game-winner when Jake Richards scored an unassisted goal with two minutes left in the game to put the Vikings up by 0ne.  But the Knights tied it a minute later to send the game to overtime to set up Johnson’s heroics.
