BOYS BASKETBALL ROUND UP
Monticello 64, North Branch 20
North Branch had one of the most disappointing offensive performances in recent memory, scoring just 20 points against Monticello on Friday, February 1.
The disaster was a combination of injuries, poor offense and shooting from North Branch and stingy defense from the always-tough Magic. It’s actually the second team this year that Monticello has held in the 20s.
North Branch was missing leading scorer Drew VanEerden and only four players scored for the Vikings. Zach Gazda and Rylen Nelson each had seven points, Conner Hartmann had four and Carter Whitman had two points.
The Vikings date with Rogers was postponed do to the freezing temps outside that cancelled schools last week.
St. Francis 56, Chisago Lakes 54
The Wildcats luckily had a built-in break last week, so they didn’t miss any games due to the cancellations that affected so many.
They took the court on Saturday, February 2 and narrowly lost to St. Francis 56-54.
The Saints held the lead at halftime 30-27, but Chisago Lakes kept it close throughout. They only got seven points from leading scorer Will Tinjum, but in his stead was Andrew Koehler and Beau Backes. Koehler netted 15 points and Backes had 10 to lead the ‘Cats as they came up just short.
