Wildcats suffer first big losing streak of the year, dropping 3

The Wildcats suffered three losses in a row before coming back to beat Hermantown.
St. Michael-Albertville 11, Chisago Lakes 1
The St. Michael-Albertville Knights scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back, crushing the Wildcats 11-1 at St. Michael-Albertville High School on Tuesday, April 23.  Leading 6-1 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Knights scored five times to win the game by the ten-run rule.  Wildcat pitchers allowed just seven hits, but they walked 14 batters.  Four errors by the Wildcat defense didn’t help, either.  Owen Dresel spoiled the shutout by driving in Logan Bjorkman with a single in the fourth inning.
Buffalo 10, Chisago Lakes 4
The Wildcats were within striking distance late in this game, trailing by two runs heading into the seventh inning.  But the Buffalo Bison scored four times in the top of the inning and shut the Wildcats down in the bottom of the inning to come away with a 10-4 win.  The game was played at Chisago Lakes High School on Wednesday, April 24.

Zach Mueller and Logan Bjorkman each singled in a run in the bottom of the third inning to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.  But the Bison tied it up in the top of the fourth and scored three more in the top of the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.  Bjorkman singled in a run in the bottom of the fifth and Dylan Tashjian singled to drive in a run in the bottom of the sixth to keep the game close.  But in the top of the seventh, a walk, a sacrifice bunt, three straight hits and an error led to four runs and a comfortable win for the Bison.  The Bison outhit the Wildcats just 11-9, but seven walks by Wildcat pitchers along with five errors by the defense led to another defeat.
Rogers 8, Chisago Lakes 4
The Rogers Royals built a 7-0 lead through the top of the fourth innings against the Wildcats.  The Wildcats rallied to chip away at the lead, but the Royals hung on and rode their cushion to an 8-4 win over the Wildcats last Thursday, April 25 at Chisago Lakes High School.  Jacob Vangstad and Owen Dresel each drove in a run for the Wildcats.  Each team made three errors.  The Royals outhit the Wildcats 13-10, outwalked them 5-2 and were able to push across the extra base runners.
Chisago Lakes 10, Hermantown 7
The Wildcats scored five runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to take a 9-5 lead and went on to beat the Hermantown Hawks 10-7 to break a three-game losing streak.  The Wildcats had just five hits in the game but took advantage of eight walks and seven Hermantown errors. Mason Molde, Ryan Sanvik and Mitch Hasselquist each drove in two runs and Logan Bjorkman had two hits and scored two runs.  Bjorkman and Sanvik each had a double.  Sanvik picked up the win in relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in 2.2 innings of relief.  He walked two and struck out four.
Baseball Banter
The Wildcats (3-5) play two straight home games to end this week.  Tonight, they will host the St. Francis Fighting Saints at Chisago Lakes High School at 4:30 p.m.  Tomorrow, Cheeseheads will abound as the Wildcats welcome the Osceola Chieftains to town for a 7 p.m. game.
