Three close losses in five days have CL boys lax team reeling
The Chisago Lakes boys lacrosse team was hot for a stretch in the middle of their season, but they ran into a rough patch trying to fit three games in five days.
They lost all three by narrow margins. It began with a 12-8 loss to Rogers on Thursday, May 9. The slide continued on Saturday, May 11 with a 9-8 loss to Delano and then it culminated with an 8-7 home loss to Monticello on Monday, May 13.
“We’ve had a string of tough losses which can really be frustrating when the games are so close. The guys are working hard at practices but it seems at each of the recent games, we’ve been going through times where we are not in sync and have some lapses in our play,” Head Coach Mark Nordby said. “The other teams have been capitalizing on our mistakes which quickly swings the momentum to their favor.”
In the Delano and Monticello games, Chisago Lakes had been ahead late in the game only to see the other team really step up and the ‘Cats falter. “Those can really be deflating but we need to keep positive, learn and move on,” Nordby said. “We've been so close in the games but have ended up on the losing end. At times the ball is moved around really well on the offensive side but then we go through a string of dropped passes, force things into tight defense or just miss on some shots. Same thing for the defense, we’ll play strong defense and have several minutes of outstanding play but then may have trouble clearing the ball and getting it up to the offensive end. We just need to keep plugging away at the fundamentals of our offense, play solid defense, keep hustling, and stay strong as a team. Close losses are not fun, but it’s during these types of stretches that a team is tested and can come out stronger. That’s what we intend to do, be stronger.”
