Chisago Lakes posts a school record 292 in boys golf

Princeton Golf Course proved to be a charitable course on a beautiful Monday afternoon earlier this week.

The Chisago Lakes boys golf team has put up some great scores despite some less-than-ideal weather this season, so when everything broke right finally on Monday, May 20, it was a special result.

The boys shot a school-record 292, eclipsing the 297 from a few years ago, and blowing past the 298 they posted earlier this season at their home course.
Even more amazing is the fact that in varsity golf, teams use the top six scores from their eight golfers. The highest score among the eight was a 77, which is a phenomenal score.

Thomas Overgaard and Ben Forsberg led the way with match 72s and Tucker Bakken was right there with them, shooting a 73.

“We legitimately have eight varsity golfers and they continue to push each other to get better and better,” Head Coach Bryon Rogers said. “The high of 77 really says something about the capabilities of this squad. We are hitting out stride at the right time of the year and will hopefully continue that pace. The guys are intent on making a run at the section tournament this year.”

Rogers and former long-time Head Coach Perry Aadland said they don’t even remember a score that approached that low before.

The Wildcats will take their talents to Hinckley for the section tourmament in late May. With pretty good weather in the forecast, anything can happen with the ‘Cats and the talent they posses.

North Branch posts season best 337
In the same meet, North Branch put up their season best score, also. They finished in fourth place with a 337, trimming double-digit strokes off of their prior best score of the year. Josh Armistead shot a 74 and Jeremy Iverson backed that up with a 78.

“We’re getting some better shots and rounding into form,” Head Coach Ryan Minke said after the meet.

Both boys team will play in the conference championship meet on Thursday, May 23 at Riverwood National Golf Course before heading to sections in June at River Oaks Golf Club.
