Track teams get nice solo performances at conference

The North Branch team didn’t get any conference championships, but they had some nice finishes, highlighted by Paige Bauer’s second place in the girls pole vault. Bauer also came in fourth place in the high jump.

Other top five finishes for North Branch include Elizabeth Woods in the 300 hurdles, with a personal best 51.57 seconds, Matt Stuber with a personal best 4:37.53 in the 1,600 meter run, Eric Nadeau with a personal best 20’2” in the long jump and Abby Schulte with a fifth place finish in the shot put. She tossed the rock 34’1”.

As teams, the North Branch boys team came in eighth place in the 10 team meet. Cambridge-Isanti won the conference title with 200 points, 45 clear of second place St. Michael-Albertville.

The girls team came in 10th, just narrowly behind St. Francis. St. Michael-Albertville won the M8C title on the girls side with 154.5 points. Cambridge-Isanti was second.

Mississippi 8 Conference Championship
In the 10-team Mississippi 8 Conference Championships, the Wildcat Boys finished fifth out of ten teams, while the girls finished sixth out of ten teams on their side.  The meet was held at Princeton High School on Wednesday, May 22.
 
Boys
Junior Beau Backes was the top performer for the boys, finishing second in both the shot put and the discus.  Senior Alex Paulsen placed third in the 110-meter hurdles.  The only other individual Wildcat boy who finished fifth or higher in an event was sophomore Andrew Koehler, who came in fourth in the shot put.
 
Girls
Junior Elsa Leopold stood out for the girls, coming in second in the high jump and springing to third place in the pole vault.  Individual Wildcat girls who finished fifth or higher in events included senior Aliah Williams, fourth in the pole vault; sophomore Jadyn Nye, fifth in the 100-meter dash; and senior Olivia Stevermer, fifth in the discus.
 
Track Tidbits
The Wildcats will host the Section 7AA Championship Meet this week at Chisago Lakes High School.  Preliminaries were yesterday and finals will be this Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
