North Branch mows down GR & BL
After suffering their first loss of the year in the North Branch Tournament, the Vikings quickly got back to their winning ways in volleyball, beating Grand Rapids 3-0 on Tuesday, September 17, and Big Lake 3-0 on Thursday, September 19.
North Branch 3, Grand Rapids 0
The Vikings finally got their match up in against Grand Rapids, as it had been postponed from earlier this year before NB had a permanent home.
Earlier in the season or now, it was going to be tough sledding for Grand Rapids, and it showed, as NB won 25-17, 25-15 and 25-18 in a sweep that wasn’t particularily close.
Cianna Selbitschka had 21 kills, 10 digs, three blocks and two aces for the North Branch offense. Reagan Irons and Paige Peaslee provided supporting firepower from the middle, with Irons getting six kills and Peaslee five.
Paige Sheehan stayed on point, with 34 assists, and Haley Hadrave, Kylie Kline and Macy Brodin all played well in the Vikings’ win.
North Branch 3, Big Lake 0
It was a very similar story to the Grand Rapids match when the Vikings hosted Big Lake on Thursday, September 19.
The Vikings raced out to a 25-16 win in the first set before an absolute demolition in the second set, 25-7. They finished the sweep off with a 25-20 win in the third set to push their record to 11-1 on the year, and a perfect 5-0 in the Mississippi 8 Conference.
Selbitschka led the team with 10 kills, but she was able to conserve some of her energy in this one with North Branch leading by so many.
Irons and Sheehan had seven and six kills, respectively, and Kristi Pilz pitched in five kills, two digs and two blocks for the Vikings.
The Vikings traveled to Princeton earlier this week to take on the M8C’s bottom team in Princeton before taking on Becker on Thursday, September 26 at home and Andover on Monday, September 30, which is another home game, at 7 p.m.
