Johnson finishes eighth at huge meet
The Milaca Mega Meet is a gigantic cross country meet at Stone’s Throw Golf Course in Milaca.
It’s normally a very well run race, but weather made things very tough this year. Chisago Lakes Head Coach Mollie McNally did what her predecessor Ken Orwoll always did, and let the kids run in their respective classes instead of trying to load up varsity.
The best finisher was by far eighth grader Henry Johnson. He’s a staple on the varsity team, but running with eighth graders, he came in eighth place with a time of 19:19.6. The field featured hundreds of runners from big and small schools alike in Minnesota.
The struggle for Johnson was the fact that 10 minutes before the eighth grade race, lightning struck near the course and forced all of the kids back onto the buses. With the lost time, the race organizers combined the seventh, eighth and ninth grade races into one giant take off, which made the course very difficult to navigate.
