CL beats M8C and section foe St. Francis in five sets
The Chisago Lakes volleyball team took another major step in their development last week, beating a winning team in the Mississippi 8 Conference.
The last two years, they’ve started to get a few more wins, but it was against programs they had passed in talent and execution. St. Francis was 4-2 in the section and conference heading into their October 10 match up with Chisago Lakes.
The Wildcats started with a strong first set, utilizing middle hitters Samantha Paulsen and Ashley Peltier to take the first set 25-20.
But, St. Francis sped up their offense in the second set, and the 'Cats fell 25-15, evning things up.
Chisago Lakes rallied and shut down the two big outside hitters for SF (two of the top in the conference) to win the third set 25-21.
CL almost finished the Saints off in the fourth set, but St. Francis battled back to win the set 28-26, setting up a decisive fifth set.
The ‘Cats came out fast, strong and confident, according to Head Coach Hannah Lindstrom, and they won the fifth set 15-8.
Lindstrom gave credit to an aggressive offensive ability and strategy, as well as an intentional and fast defense. “That was one of the best matches we've ever played,” she said. “All the pieces came together, and it was a great night to battle in Mississippi 8 play.”
The ‘Cats wrapped up their regular season with a match up against Rush City on Monday, October 14. They’ll be looking to make some noise in the Section 7AAA tourney when it rolls around next week.
