Cross country teams end season at Cloquet CC
Area cross country teams ended their season at the Cloquet Country Club on Saturday, October 26.
The girls team earned a top 10 finish in the Section 7AA meet, headlined by Maya Aadland’s school record 20:10.8.
Aadland had set the 5K record earlier this season, but she broke it in the biggest meet of the year. The time got her a 19th place finish, but the freshman just barely missed out on the state tournament as the top 15 make it to state.
Senior Christina Brunnette came in 37th place, Caroline Aili came in 46th place, Leah Dreckman came in 50th and Molly Moberg and Elsa Leopold rounded out the varsity runners in 63rd and 67th place, respectively.
The team accumulated 215 points, just 12 behind Elk River, who finished in eighth. Forest Lake, who had three top six finishers, won the meet with 34 points.
The boys team came in 11th place with 274 points, and they were led by Henry Johnson and Mason Vitalis. Johnson, who is only an eighth grader, finished in 17:33.9 to come in 31st place. Vitalis, a senior in his last career race, finished in 17:34, just one place behind Johnson in 32nd.
Luke Velaski, Hayden Trupe, Grant Koehler and Will Lund were the other competitors for CL in the boys half.
Forest Lake also won the that race, scoring 48 points by putting three runners in the top eight, including the first and second place finishers.
The Vikings finished last in the 15 team section, scoring 402 points, well behind Hermantown in 14th place with 342 points.
Cora Hudella was the highlight for the Lady Vikes. The sophomore came in 38th place with a time of 21:24.
Alexia Russell, Norah Judson, Elizabeth Woods, Julia Van Dyke and Victoria Kent all competed for North Branch in the event.
The boys finished in 16th place with their young squad. Carson Klein and Zachary Johnson were the only Vikings to finish in the top 100, with Klein in 55th and Johnson in 58th. Lucas Edson, Alex Dick, Paul Boelk and Jarett Nelson, all underclassmen, were the other runners that competed for NB.
