Chisago Lakes falls to high-octane Pine City, dips to 0-2 on the season
Pine City 5, Chisago Lakes 1
The Pine City Dragons broke open a close game with three goals in the second period and went on to beat the Wildcats 5-1 on Tuesday, November 26 at Chisago Lakes Arena. Pine City outshot the Wildcats 33-30 for the game but had better scoring opportunities. In the first period, they hit the pipe once and just missed the net on a couple of other shots. Starting goalie Will Burgen also made a few nice saves to keep the score at 1-0 in favor of the Dragons after one. Max Wilmer replaced Burgen in the nets after Pine City went up 4-0 and allowed just one goal on 14 shots the rest of the way. Ben Johnson scored a power play goal at 5:43 of the third period to break up the shutout, assisted by Ryan Schmidt and Tucker Bakken.
The Wildcats (0-2) will play Mississippi 8 Conference opponent Monticello tonight at Moose Sherritt Arena in Monticello at 7 p.m. Tomorrow afternoon, they will welcome the Somerset Spartans to Chisago Lakes Arena for a 5 p.m. game. Monday, December 9 they will host the Gentry Academy Stars at 7 p.m. at Chisago Lakes Arena.
Wildcat head coach Cale Arhart was not behind the bench for the game against Pine City and also will not be making the trip to Monticello.
Neither Activities Director Jodi Otte nor Superintendent Dean Jennissen would give any details in regards to Arhart’s absence, with Otte saying, “Chisago Lakes School District is committed to the success of our athletes and programs.”
Jennissen followed up by saying the district had no comment on any specifics, only confirming that Arhart would return to coaching duties Friday, December 6 in the game against Somerset. “In Mr. Arhart’s absence, Activites Director Jodi Otte is the acting head coach. [Assistant Coach] Alli Borgstrom will continue to assist Ms. Otte in that role until Mr. Arhart returns.”
