Ranked grapplers doing well for NB
Maple Grove Crimson Invitational
Josh Logan (11-2) finally lost a match this season – in fact, he lost two – at the Maple Grove Crimson Invitational last weekend. But it doesn’t mean Logan wrestled poorly. Logan, who is unranked at 132 pounds in Class AA, lost to ranked Class AAA wrestlers in the semifinal and third-place matches. Brandt Bombard, ranked fourth at 138 in Class AA, lost his semifinal match to a ranked AAA wrestler before winning the third-place match. Two other Vikings placed at Maple Grove: Sam Sonnek came in fourth at 182 and Ashton LaBelle finished fifth at 145. The Vikings sent six wrestlers to the tournament and finished eleventh out of 13 teams.
Logan (132) won by decision in his first match and pinned his quarterfinal opponent. In the semifinals, he lost a 7-0 decision to Michael Murphy of Eagan, ranked seventh in the state in Class AAA at 138. And in the third-place match, Logan was pinned by Brad Howes of Anoka, who is ranked sixth at in Class AAA at 138. Bombard, meanwhile, also won by decision and fall in his first two matches, In the semifinals, Bombard lost to by a 9-2 decision to Charlie Dojan of Irondale, ranked sixth in Class AAA at 132. Bombard then pinned Jacob Whitaker of Anoka with nine seconds left in the second period to claim third place.
The Vikings will be off to enjoy the holidays for the next couple of weeks. Their next action will be the Ogilvie Tournament on Saturday, January 4 at 10 a.m.
