'Cats drop two in holiday tournament

Morris Area/Chokio Alberta 74, Chisago Lakes 63
Chisago Lakes didn’t get a smooth start to the Fergus Falls Holiday Tournament on Friday, December 27 as the Tigers roared past the Wildcats 74-63.

CL had a balanced scoring attack, with three players in double figures, but they didn’t have a stand out like Morris did in Jackson Loge. Loge led all scorers with 29 points for Morris.

The Tigers held a three point lead at halftime, but then were able to grow that in the second half with a barrage from Loge, Thomas Tiernan and Toby Gonnerman. It ended up being an 11 point win for Morris, sending CL to a 1-6 record and the losing bracket of the Fergus Falls Holiday Tourney.

Andrew Koehler led the Wildcats with 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Beau Backes added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ethan Thompson netted 10 points in the loss and Ryan Sanvik had eight points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Hutchinson 83, Chisago Lakes 81
Backes got hot in this game, but it still wasn’t enough to overcome a talented Hutchinson team in the second game of the tournament.

Backes ended the afternoon with 37 points and 13 boards, and Koehler kept his double-double streak alive with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Hutch, on the other hand, got 24 points from Russell Corrigan and then a steady dose of the other four starters to hold of the ‘Cats. Outside of Corrigan, the other Tiger started had 17, 15, 14 and 11 points respectively, and that balanced attack proved hard to defend for Chisago Lakes.

The ‘Cats held a four point lead at halftime, but Hutchinson was able to erase that in the second frame, winning by two.

Thompson had a nice supporting role again, scoring 12 points, and both Sanvik and Noah Lasiuta had nice all around games. Sanvik had six points, seven boards and five assists. Lasiuta had four points, four boards and eight assists.
