Wildcats shut out Sauk Rapids Rice; Johnson pots two goals
Chisago Lakes 4, Sauk Rapids-Rice 0
Ben Johnson scored twice in the second period and goalie Max Wilmer stopped all 23 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season to lead the Wildcats to a 4-0 win over the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm. The game was played in front of the home crowd at Chisago Lakes Arena last Saturday, January 4.
Logan Mehlhorn scored an unassisted goal midway through the first period to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Johnson scored a power play goal three minutes into the second period, assisted by Alex Bachmeier and David Kimlinger, to double the Wildcat lead. Johnson scored again three minutes later to make the score 3-0. Nick Helland and Bachmeier picked up the assists. And Karston Edson, who had scored his first two goals of the season the previous night against North Branch, scored his third goal of the season in the third period, assisted by Ben Johnson, to make the final score 4-0. The Wildcats outshot the Storm 34-23 for the game.
The Wildcats (4-7-0) will face two Mississippi 8 Conference opponents over the next week. Tonight, they will head to Isanti Ice Arena to take on the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets at 7 p.m. And next Tuesday, January 14, they will host the St. Francis Fighting Saints at Chisago Lakes Arena at 7 p.m.
