Big Lake 42, North Branch 25 Big Lake beat the Vikings 42-25 in a dual meet at home on Wednesday, January 29. But in the six contested matches, the Vikings beat Big Lake 19-6.

North Branch Invitational Josh Logan (132) won the championship at the North Branch Invitational last Friday, January 31 at North Branch High School. All ten North Branch wrestlers placed. Two Vikings finished second – Brandt Bombard (138) and Sam Sonnek (182). The Vikings came in sixth out of eight teams, and Simley, the top-ranked team in the state in Class AA, finished first.
Logan opened his championship run with a fall at 3:00 over David Goebel of Milaca-Faith Christian. In the semifinals, it took Logan just 1:08 to finish off Eli Burr of Simley. And in the championship match, Logan went the distance with Nate Stuart of Boyceville. But Logan came away with a convincing 11-3 major decision over Stuart to claim the championship.
St. Croix Lutheran Crusader Invitational Two Vikings won championships at the St. Croix Lutheran Invitational last Saturday, February 1 – Josh Logan (132) and Ashton LaBelle (145). In all, six of the eight Vikings entered in the tournament placed and the Vikings had a record of 19-10 in individual matches. The Vikings finished sixth out of 11 teams in the tourney.
In the quarterfinals, Logan pinned Mason Scott of Bloomington Kennedy at 1:34. Logan assimilated Cole Borg of Andover at 1:14 in their semifinal match. And Logan had a tough match against Samson Oyedokun of Park Center in the championship match but squeaked out a 6-4 decision to claim his second championship in a row.
LaBelle opened his championship run with a 7-0 decision over Victor Perez-Meza of Park Center. In the semifinals, LaBelle won by an 11-3 major decision over Clint Garritty of Brooklyn Center-Concordia Academy. In the championship match, LaBelle faced Jonathan Oyedokun of Park Center, the brother of Josh Logan’s opponent at 132. And this brother also had to settle for second place as LaBelle beat him by a 6-2 decision to win the championship.
Wrestling Whangdoodles Tomorrow night, the Vikings will end the regular season at a triangular meet at Zimmerman, with the action getting underway at 5 p.m. The next action after that for the Vikings will be the team section tournament at Mahtomedi on Saturday, February 15.
