Chisago Lakes continues roll-hanging up 11 on Bluejackets
Chisago Lakes 11, Cambridge-Isanti 2
Ben Jinks and Ben Johnson each had a hat trick as the Wildcat boys’ hockey team crushed the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets last Thursday, February 6 at Chisago Lakes Arena. For Jinks, the goals were his first three goals of the season. And for Johnson, it was his second hat trick of the season.
The Wildcats scored three goals in the first period and exploded for seven goals in the second. They added one goal during running time in the third period. Nick Overgaard had three assists to get the playmaker award. Five Wildcats scored one goal each: Zach Walden, Ryan Schmidt, Isaac Roy and Treven Shelton. Karston Edson and Roy had two assists apiece. Six players contributed one assist each: Walden, Chase Mehlhorn, Schmidt, Ricky Giese, Shelton and Blaine Klemz. For Klemz and Giese, it was their first point of the season, and it was Burgen’s first goal of the season.
The surging Wildcats (13-11-0) are 8-3-0 over their last 11 games as they head into tonight’s regular season finale against River Falls (Wisc.) at Chisago Lakes Arena at 7 p.m. The Wildcats will open the Section 5A playoffs with a home game. If the QRF rankings remain the same over the next few days, it looks like the Wildcats will be seeded seventh and open the playoffs at home against the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets, currently seeded tenth, on Tuesday, February 18, likely at 7 p.m. the Wildcats beat the Bluejackets 5-2 on the road in early January and crushed them 11-2 last week at home. So, assuming the Wildcats take care of business against Cambridge-Isanti on Tuesday, they go on the road to take on the second seed – likely Pine City – next Thursday, February 20. If QRF rankings change, the opponents will be different. We will have a full Section 5A playoff preview, starting with the quarterfinals, in next week’s Press.
