Boys alpine ski team clinches state tournament berth

Just days after wrapping up their Northwest Suburban Conference championship, the Chisago Lakes boys alpine ski team checked one more box on their season checklist: making it to the state meet at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.

The boys finished in second place, behind Stillwater, and qualified for the state tournament as a team. They were led by Jamie Mower and Augie Brown, and supplemented by Zach Hennen, Mike Frischmon and Jack LeTourneau.

As a team, the boys scored 403 points. Stillwater scored 435 in first place and the Cloquet co-op was in third with 368 points, so really it was a two-horse race for the two state meet berths.

Mower was CL’s top finisher, as he went 38.9 seconds on the red course and 34.72 on the blue course for a third and fourth place finish, respectively. The final tally earned him a fourth place finish and the team 110 points.

Brown came in 11th place overall with an eighth and 12th place finish on the red and blue course. His total time was 1:15.85.
Zach Hennen put a strong time together for Chisago Lakes, coming in 18th place with a time of 1:18.68. He was consistent throughout, finishing in 19th on the red course and 18th on the blue.

Mike Frischmon kept things rolling for CL by grabbing a top 20 finish in 1:19.42. Jack LeTourneau was there in support if anyone faltered, finishing in 22nd place with a time of 1:20.39.

Mower, Brown and Hennen all did enough to qualify as individuals if the team hadn’t made it to the big snow dance.

For the girls, they just barely missed out on going to state as a team. They finished in third place, just eight points behind Duluth East, who is going as a team.

Janzig led the way with a fifth place finish in 1:21.15. She was fifth on the red course and fourth on the blue course.

Megan Adams had a nice pair of runs, finishing in 19th place with a time of 1:26.27. Kaylee Peterson came in 29th place and Maren Dahl rounded out the scorers for CL with a 77th place. Stillwater won the meet with 445 points.
