Big Lake put the sting on Chisago Lakes again on Monday, February 8.
After beating the Wildcats by one to open the season, the Hornets again beat CL last week, 54-47.
Greta Gillach led the Wildcats with 19 points but she was the only player in double figures for CL. Sophie Wood had nine points and Rayna Barrett added six.
Mia Huberty was the star for Big Lake, scoring 30 points to go with 10 rebounds. Hailey Millam had 12 points and 11 boards for BL.
Their second game of the week against Sartell-St. Stephen went the exact opposite as their tilt against Big Lake.
The Wildcats got a balanced scoring attack on offense from Gillach, Jill Erickson and Wood, and they pounded the glass, grabbing 34 team rebounds. Gillach and Erickson both had 10 points, with Erickson adding seven rebounds, and Wood had eight points to go with 11 rebounds. Emma Bjelland chipped in six points for the ‘Cats.
Chisago Lakes’ defense was suffocating throughout, though, and the Sabres couldn’t get anything going. They didn’t have any players in double figures and only managed 39 points total as CL won 50-39.
On Monday, February 15, the ‘Cats had to take on Becker again, and they couldn’t crack their unbeaten season despite a good showing in their first match up.
Becker had a 20 point lead at halftime and Chisago Lakes was never able to mount a second half comeback as the Bulldogs won 79-41. Gillach scored 12 points and Wood had 10 points and seven boards, which leaves her seven rebounds shy of 500 on her career.
With a good game, she should pass that mark on Thursday, February 18 at Pine City in a game that starts at 7:15 p.m.
The Wildcats take on county rival North Branch on Tuesday, February 23 at home at 7 p.m.
