Short-handed 'Cats open with win
Chisago Lakes 6, Princeton 4
The Wildcats pounded out 14 hits, including three apiece by Nathan Zingerman and Collin Hackl, and beat the Princeton Tigers in the season opener last Thursday, April 15 at Princeton. Zingerman pitched the first four innings to pick up the win. He allowed three earned runs on five hits, walked one and struck out two. Ryan Sanvik went the final three innings to pick up the save. He allowed one earned run on three hits, struck out four and didn’t walk anybody.
The Wildcats opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the third. Sanvik and Storm Opdahl each laid down sacrifice bunts, and on each play the Tigers threw the ball around and a run scored. In the fourth, Joe Graeve tripled to drive in Hackl and increase the Wildcat lead to 3-0. But the Tigers tied it up with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. The Wildcats grabbed the lead back in the top of the fifth. Nick Wasko’s one-out double drove in Xavier Gangl, and Adam Brown’s two-out double plated courtesy runner Mitch Torgerson. Princeton got one back in the bottom of the inning, but Zingerman double to drive in Jackson Smith in the top of the sixth to make the score 6-4.
The Wildcats will host the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets in the hole opener today at 4:30 p.m. They will head to St. Francis tomorrow to face the Fighting Saints at 4:30 p.m. And next Tuesday, the Wildcats will stay on the road when they play the Monticello Magic, again at 4:30 p.m.
