Wildcats finally break through and win M8C meet
Mississippi 8 Conference Meet at Princeton Golf Course
The Chisago Lakes girls golf team has been playing great this year, but hasn’t been able to topple a very strong Becker team for a first place finish in a M8C meet yet.
It happened yet again at Princeton Golf Course on Monday, May 17. Despite getting a personal best 82 from Emily Erickson and an 85 from big sister Jill Erickson, as well as strong matching 94s from Haley Overgaard and Grace DeVries — her personal best — the ‘Cats found themselves in second place with a score of 355, five strokes behind the Bulldogs.
M8C Meet at Chisago Lakes Golf Course
Luckily for the Wildcats, their last conference meet of the year was held at their home track, the Chisago Lakes Golf Course on Tuesday, May 25.
Using their knowledge and familiarity with the home course, the Wildcats finally broke through to beat Becker. They finished with a score of 358, topping Becker who faltered on some of CL’s toughest holes, hole four and five.
Emily Erickson, who is only a sophomore, carded another team best score with an 85 and Jill Erickson backed that up with an 87. Overgaard shot a 90 on the home course and DeVries put up a 96. Kali Jo Hanson had a season best 107 at the meet and Lily Fasbender finished the ‘Cats day with a 112.
At the end of the meet, when the scores were tallied up over the season, it was revealed the Erickson sisters and DeVries all earned All-Conference honors for the M8C.
It’s the first time in school history that the girls golf team had three athletes qualify for the award.
The girls will now turn their attention towards the Section 7AAA meet at Hinckley Grand National on Thursday, June 3. All three of Chisago Lakes’ award winners could potentially play on the second day for a shot at the state tournament and to move into the biggest meet of the year.
