Wildcats lose another one goal game
to Monticello to finish second in GWM
Just before sectional play started, the Chisago Lakes girls lacrosse team had a chance to draw even with the Monticello Magic, the only team to beat them so far this year.
But, much like the first match up, Chisago Lakes was leading at halftime only to see the Magic come back and win by one goal.
The first match was 8-7 in favor of Monti, which was uncharacteristic of CL’s high powered offense. In this matchup, held on Wednesday, May 26, the Wildcats led 8-7 at halftime, and buckled up for what looked like a high-scoring affair.
But, things tightened up int the second half on both sides, and Chisago Lakes only scored two goals the rest of the way. Monticello only scored four, but it was enough to secure the win for them.
Abby Sprado led the ‘Cats with four goals, Hailey Kretsch had three and Josie Waltman, Kamryn Peterson and Megan Adams each had a score.
The girls broke a ton of records in their short program history. They had the record for the most wins in a season with 11, most goals scored in a game with 25 against Big Lake, first ever shutout against the Hornets, the most team goals in a season with 212, most ground balls in a season with 328 and the most goals scored by a play from Sprado, who had 70 goals.
Sprado ended the regular season with 70 goals and 15 assists. Hailey Kretsch had 33 goals and seven assists, and Anna Hanson had 22 goals and three assists.
Syd Boyle and Makenna Olson led the ‘Cats in ground baclls with 36 and 37, respectively.
Chloe Beimert and Laura Carlson split goaltending duties and were both effect. Beimert went 6-1 with 81 saves and Carlson went 5-1 with 82 saves.
