NB creams the competition
en route to big match up with CL
North Branch 10, Duluth Denfeld 0
The Vikings run-ruled the Hunters in their first round match up between the second and seventh seeds.
North Branch, who was the higher seed, got a phenomenal start from Lydia Kuhlman, who only gave up one hit and struck out five Hunters. Senior catcher Emma Hurd was the star on offense, going three-for-four while calling a great game.
“We have been very locked in this past week, and we are taking every at bat, every pitch and every play with purpose,” Head Coach Kathy Crudo said. “We have been fortunate to have everyone in our lineup impact the game in each way and our defense has been all out.”

Erin Pederson led the game off for the Vikings with a double, and that just set the tone for a high-scoring game from the Vikings’ lineup. Makenna Runk hit a big bases-clearing double later in the inning and the rout was on. They ended up clobbering the third-seeded Lumberjacks 10-0 on Saturday, June 5.
Hannah Bernier got the start for North Branch and threw the complete game shutout, giving up only one hit and striking out five Lumberjacks.
“Obviously, both of our pitchers have been great this postseason by allowing us to get right back in the dugout on offense,” Crudo said. “ Lydia and Hannah have taken care of business, and the offense is taking a great approach at the plate. Different parts of the lineup have been stepping up, which creates a lot of pressure on opposing teams’ pitchers because they aren’t ever able to take a breath in our lineup.”
The wins set North Branch up to play against Chisago Lakes in the upper half of the winners bracket.
