CHISAGO COUNTY SOCCER ROUND UP

Chisago Lakes Girls
The Wildcat girls put a scare into the St. Francis Fighting Saints, who are ranked eighth in the state, by scoring right at the beginning of the game. But the Fighting Saints came back to score twice to beat the Wildcats 2-1. The game was played Tuesday, September 14 at St. Francis High School.

Three minutes into the game, Madison Kubalek sent a cross into the St. Francis box from deep in the corner. The St. Francis goalkeeper got a hand on it, but Alyssa Hempel was able to get a shot off. The ball ricocheted off a defender and landed at the feet of Katelyn Barnick, who knocked it into the net to put the Wildcats up 1-0. Near the end of the first half, the Fighting Saints converted a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1. The Wildcats kept battling throughout the second half, but St. Francis scored with 4:33 to go and won 2-1. Wildcat goalkeeper Kat Miller did a lot to keep her team in the game, making 24 saves.

The Wildcats (2-5-0) have four games in the next six days:  at Princeton tonight at 7 p.m., at home Saturday against Duluth Denfeld at 11 a.m.; at home Monday against Big Like at 7 p.m.; and at Becker on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Chisago Lakes Boys
The Wildcat boys continued to struggle, losing to St. Francis and Becker last week to run their record to 0-6-0 for the season. The Wildcats have scored just two goals so far this season, whole allowing 27. They have a chance to get back on the right track with four games in the next six days:  at home tonight against Princeton at 7 p.m.; home Saturday against Duluth Denfeld at 1 p.m.; at Big Lake Monday at 7 p.m.; and at Fridley Tuesday at 5 p.m.

North Branch Boys
The North Branch (2-3-2) lost 3-1 to Princeton at home on Monday, September 13, and lost a squeaker at Big Lake 1-0 least Thursday. The Vikings have scored nine goals so far this season and allowed just 12. They continue to play good teams close and may surprise some teams when sections start in a few weeks. The Vikings host Monticello tonight at 7 p.m., and will travel to St. Francis on Monday to take on the Fighting Saints at 7 p.m.
