Northern Edge breaks losing streak behind Langevin hat trick

Forest Lake 4, Northern Edge 0
The Rangers scored twice in each of the first two periods and shut out the Stars 4-0 Thursday, December 23 at the East Bethel Ice Arena.  The Rangers dominated play through the game, outshooting the Vikings 30-18 for the game, including a 17-3 edge in the second period.  The Stars comeback attempt in the third period fizzled, as the Rangers held them to just five shots on net for the period.

Simley 6, Northern Edge 1
In the Stars’ opening round game at the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic, which took place this past Monday at the National Sports Center (Super Rink 3) in Blaine, the Simley Spartans outshot the Stars just 22-19.  But the Stars had trouble keeping the puck out of the net as Simley scored four times in the second period and beat the Stars 6-1.   The Stars’ Owen DuBois spoiled the shutout with a goal late in the second period, assisted by Carsen Thorson and Isaiah Stokes.

Northern Edge 7, Marshall 2
Alex Langevin showed off his skills with three unassisted goals as the Stars crushed the Marshall Tigers 7-2 in the consolation semifinals of the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic.  The win sent the Stars to at matchup with the Princeton Tigers in the consolation championship game of the Classic, which was played at the National Sports Center last night.  Results of that game will appear in an upcoming issue of the Press.
Langevin scored twice in the first period.  It looked like the teams would go into the intermission tied 2-2, but Tyler Iacano scored with just one second to go in the period, assisted by Langevin and Loghan Croal, to put the Stars up 3-2.  The Stars scored four times in the first half of the second period to put the game well out of reach.  Cam Husby scored, assisted by DuBois; Trever Ripley added a goal, assisted by Langevin and Weston Sabby; Carsen Thorsen put one in the back of the net, with the assist going to Ben Baumgardt; and Langevin topped off the scoring, completing his hat trick at 8:59 of the second period.

Hockey Hullaballoo
The Stars (2-5-1) will face the Princeton Tigers for the second time in a row, this time in a regular season game next Thursday, January 6 Princeton Ice Arena at 7 p.m.
