Burgen breaks assist mark during 13-0 demolition of Red Wing

Chisago Lakes 13, Red Wing 0
The Wildcats scored five goals in the first period and five more in the second period on their way to a 13-0 thrashing of the Red Wing Wingers Thursday, December 30 at Chisago Lakes Arena.  Dani Brunette led the Wildcats in scoring with two goals and four assists.  The Wildcats dominated their overmatched opponent from start to finish, outshooting them 43-8.  Wildcat goalie Brianna Ritter stopped all eight shots she faced to pick up her third shutout of the season.

Three other Wildcats had two goals apiece – Kayla Bluhm, Aly Vogelsang and Dani Burgen.  Scoring one goal each were Laine DeVries, Brooke Klemz, Kaitlyn Hanson, Tianna Ritter, and Lauren Schmidt.  Burgen and Rilee Winters had two assists apiece.  Rounding out the scoring, five Wildcats each tallied one assist:  Laine DeVries, Vogelsang, Syd Kerkow, Klemz and Molly Eickman.
Chisago Lakes 1, Pine City 1 (O.T.)
Pine City Dragon sophomore goalie Sophie Olson played the best game of her career against the high-powered Wildcat offense.  She saw 46 shots and stopped 45 of them, including ten in overtime, as the teams skated to a 1-1 tie Tuesday, January 4 at the Pine City Civic Center.  Wildcat goalie Brianna Ritter also played well, stopping 18 of the 19 shots she faced.

Kayla Bluhm scored a power play goal at 5:25 of the first period, assisted by Laine DeVries and Dani Burgen, to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.  There was no more scoring until Pine City’s Jennae Szucs tied the game with an unassisted goal just over two minutes into the third period.  And that was it.  The Dragons held off the Wildcats for the rest of the third period and all eight minutes of overtime.
Hockey Hullaballoo
Dani Burgen recorded her 119th career assist during the Red Wing game, breaking Jenna Lawry’s Chisago Lakes High School career record of 118 assists set just last year.
Including the game at Pine City, nine of the final ten Wildcat (7-7-1) regular season games are on the road.  This Saturday, they will take on the South St. Paul Packers at Doug Woog Arena in South St. Paul at 3 p.m. And next Tuesday, January 11 they will head to Princeton Ice Arena to play the Tigers (1-13-0), with the game getting underway at 7 p.m.
