Chisago loses two close games

Forest Lakes 3, Chisago Lakes 2
When the Wildcats and Forest Lake Rangers clashed at Forest Lake Sports Center on Tuesday, December 28, Wildcat Ryan Schmidt scored a power play goal at 2:51 of the third period to pull the Wildcats within one goal.  But the Rangers held off the Wildcats for the rest of the period and came away with a 3-2 win.  The Rangers outshot the Wildcats 30-21 for the game.

Caden Speidel scored for the Rangers at 4:06 of the first period to give them a 1-0 lead.  Four-and-a-half minutes later, Schmidt scored a power play goal, assisted by Nick Helland and Nate Schmidt, to tie the game at 1-1.  But a turning point in the game came when Ranger Evan Dzurik scored with just 13 seconds left in the first period to put the Rangers up 2-1.  Malachi McKinnon scored 21 seconds into the third period to give the Rangers a two-goal lead at 3-1.  Two-and-a-half minutes later, Schmidt scored his second power play goal of the game, assisted by Cam Stangl and Nik Jinks.  But it wasn’t enough.

Cambridge-Isanti 3, Chisago Lakes 2 (O.T.)
Will O’Donovan scored his second goal of the game at 3:32 of overtime to give the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets a 3-2 win over the Wildcats Thursday, January 6 at Isanti Ice Arena.
Jack Bakken scored four minutes into the first period, assisted by Nik Jinks and Ryan Schmidt, to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.  The Bluejackets Jaxon Jones’ tied it up four minutes later.  O’Donovan scored his first goal at 14:25 of the second period to put Cambridge-Isanti up 2-1.  Schmidt scored a power play goal just over a minute into the third period, assisted by Jinks and Nate Bluhm, to tie the game at 2-2.  Shots were nearly even for the game, with the Bluejackets edging the Wildcats 29-27.

Ryan Schmidt has scored at least one goal in each of the Wildcats’ 12 games so far this year and has 18 total goals.  And he has at least one assist in nine of those 12 games, and has 14 assists for the season.

The Wildcats (8-3-1) will host the Monticello Moose (5-10-0) tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Chisago Lakes Arena.  Next Tuesday, January 18, the Wildcats will head to Princeton Ice Arena to take on the Tigers at 7 p.m.
