Girls alpine ski team proudly reps Chisago Lakes at state tournament

In a field chock full of massive schools and private institutions, the little engine that could, the Chisago Lakes girls alpine ski team, represented their school and Wild Mountain well at the state alpine ski meet on Wednesday, February 16 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.

The state title was won by Minnetonka, who has an enrollment more than three times the size of Chisago Lakes. Other goliaths CL went up against included Stillwater, Edina and Eagan, as well as private schools Blake and Hill Murray.

In the end, Chisago Lakes finished in eight place, just 12 behind Eagan, but the memories and tradition were carried by this group of girls.

The top finisher for Chisago Lakes was Anna Dahl. She put up very similar times on the red and blue courses and finished in 24th and 23rd, respectively. That resulted in a 21st place finish for her with a time of 1:27.88.

Her sister Elsa Dahl was the second fastest Wildcat, with a time of 1:29.95 to finish in 26th place.

Kaylee Peterson had one of her best races at the difficult course, coming in 34th place in the stacked meet. She finished with a time of 1:33.81.

Maren Dahl wrapped up Chisago Lakes’ varsity scoring as the fourth best Wildcat in the combined times. She finished the two races in 1:43.95.

Senior Lauryn Lundberg came in 39th for the ‘Cats, just behind Maren Dahl, and senior Sophie Janzig, who led the ‘Cats most of the year, had a great run on the red course, coming in 12th place, but a stumble on the blue course left her in 44th place overall.

For the boys, Will Hennen came in 30th place as the lone Wildcat qualifier. He finished the red course in 40.74 seconds and the blue course in 41.29 seconds for a 1:22.03 final time.
