Divers sweep sections, state next

Three is a special number this week for the Chisago Lakes dive team.

Three divers swept the top three spots in the Section 4A swim and dive meet and all will each make at least their third consecutive trip to the state tournament — Jimmy Nord and Storm Opdahl are both in their fifth straight tournament, and Tobie Stiles his third.

And Opdahl will be chasing his third straight state championship, punctuating his aquatic career as the most dominant diver in Chisago Lakes history, and potentially the state.

Nord and Stiles have been dominant in their own right, as well, they just happen to be diving at a time when their teammates are some of the best divers in the whole state.

Opdahl scored a 436.2, Nord had a 417 and Stiles scored a 415.65.

However, there is a major hurdle this year in Dakatoh Parker of Monticello. The Magic senior finished second to Opdahl two years ago at the state meet, but missed last year’s state tournament, clearing the way for the CL sweep.

Parker is back this year and qualified with the highest score in the state — 508.

“It’s going to be a fun and competitive state meet,” Head Coach Ellen Heath said.

The boys will start their journey at noon on Thursday,
