North Branch won their first section game since 2015-16, and that made Head Coach Alison Trampe proud despite the Vikings falling in the semifinals to the top-seeded Grand Rapids Thunderhawks in their next game.
The Vikings’ first game of sections was an 18 point blitzing of Hibbing on Tuesday, March 1.
Paige Peaslee and Ella Kuhlman each had huge games. They both scored 26 points for the Vikings and Peaslee also had 14 rebounds.
“We knew coming into the game that Hibbing had a few starters back since we played in early February so we were expecting a close game. It was a two point game at halftime, but just like many other games this season we were able to pull away in the second half,” Trampe said. “It was fun to see this special group of girls experience that excitement together!”
Kuhlman and Peaslee kept their hot streak up against Grand Rapids, scoring a combined 48 points, but the Thunderhawks just couldn’t miss on the offensive end, and that doomed the Lady Vikes.
“Grand Rapids shot the ball extremely well and despite different defensive looks we threw at them, they just couldn't miss in the first half,” Trampe explained. “Even though it was not the outcome we were hoping for, we accomplished a lot this season as a team and have so much to be proud of!”
