Champlin Park 12, Chisago Lakes 5 After breezing through Hermantown in their opening round of sections, the fifth seeded Chisago Lakes girls lacrosse team had to travel out west to take on the fourth seeded Champlin Park Rebels on Thursday, June 2.
Unfortunately for the girls, their dream season came to a crashing halt at the hands of the Rebels, as they lost 12-5. Prolific Wildcat goal scorer Sara Smith had three of CL’s five goals, and Ally Nelson and Aly Vogelsang each added one, but it wasn’t enough to stymie the Rebels, who draw from a much bigger pool of athletes than CL.
This was one of those match ups that will go away once lacrosse is grown enough to expand to two classes, but for now, the ‘Cats are stuck in a section with the biggest schools in the west metro.
For CL, freshman goalie Laura Carlson faced a ton of shots — 26 to be exact — and played well, but it’s tough facing a constant barrage.
