Vikings KO'd by Denfeld
The third-seeded North Branch baseball team fell twice in a row to be eliminated from Section 7AAA and have their season come to an end.
Their first loss came in an especially heartbreaking fashion. It was the semifinals, and the Vikings had scored two early runs and held a 2-0 lead through four innings. However, Hermantown, the second seed, piled up four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead.
North Branch waited until the seventh to answer back, but they did it in a big way, scoring two runs to tie the game at 4-4. After holding the Hawks scoreless in the bottom of the seventh inning, NB then tallied another run in the top of the eighth to take the extra-inning lead. With only three outs to go before advancing, Hermantown strung together enough hits to score two runs and walk off as winners of the section finals.
Andrew Orf had three RBIs on three sacrifice flies, Noah Thorsen had two walks, a stolen base and two runs, and Nate Skiba went two-for-four with an RBI. Loghan Croal went two-for-three with two runs and an RBI.
