AREA SOCCER ROUND UP: Lady 'Cats win opener, Vikes win 19-1
Chisago Lakes Boys
In the Wildcat boys’ soccer season opener at Hill-Murray on August 25, Davinsly Pearcy scored twice in the second half for the Pioneers as they shut out the Wildcats 2-0. The Wildcats (0-2) were also shut out in their home opener, as they lost to the Mahtomedi Zephyrs 5-0 on Monday, August 29.
North Branch Boys
The Viking boys’ soccer team put on quite a show in their season opener, crushing the Two Harbors Agates 19-1 at home Thursday, August 25. Eric Elizarraga-Flor and Jacob Edmonds had four goals apiece, while Nick Bovitz and Carson Weber each scored three times. Drew Detzler tallied two goals, and Brady Barie, Chazz Johnson and Aidan Kennedy had one goal apiece in the romp. But the Vikings (1-2) were shut out in their next two games, losing 5-0 to the St. Croix Prep Lions in Stillwater on Saturday, August 27 and falling 6-0 to the Duluth Denfeld Hunters this past Tuesday, August 30 in Duluth.
Chisago Lakes Girls
The Wildcat girls’ soccer team won their season opener 4-1 over the Coon Rapids Cardinals Thursday, August 25 at Coon Rapids. The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the first half and added two more goals in the second half. Emily Carroll led the way with two goals. Katelyn Barnick and Addyson Barrett each had a goal and an assist, and Ruby Dircks picked up an assist.
North Branch Girls
The Viking girls’ soccer team started the season with an especially busy schedule, playing four games in six days. They opened with a 1-0 loss to the Hermantown Hawks at Centricity Field in Hermantown on Thursday, August 25. They lost their home opener to the Highland Park Scots 2-0 on Saturday, August 27. The Vikings (1-3) travelled to Cloquet on Monday, August 9 and lost to the Cloquet-Carlton Lumberjacks 4-1 on Monday, August 29. They finally broke into the win column on Tuesday, August 30 with a convincing 8-0 shutout win over the North St. Paul Polars at Polar Field in North St. Paul.
Wildcat Boys: No games for the Wildcats before next Thursday, September 8.
Viking Boys: The Vikings will head up to Grand Rapids to take on the Thunderhawks tonight at 6 p.m.
Wildcat Girls: Away at St. Croix Prep Lions Tuesday, September 6 at St. Croix Prep in Stillwater.
Viking Girls: Host the Duluth Denfeld Hunters this afternoon at 5 p.m. at North Branch High School.
