Swimmers fall in first match up against Becker

The Chisago Lakes girls swim and diving team put up a good fight in their season opener against Becker on Thursday, September 8, but they fell short to the Bulldogs  104-82.

Becker took a big lead after the first four events, as they claimed winners in all of them, but once the diving break came around, Chisago Lakes made some ground up. Hattie Opdahl and Sylvia Struve went one-two in the event and Emma Wakefield added a fourth place to trim eight points off of Becker’s lead.

The butterfly event was a struggle, however, for the ‘Cats and Becker rebuilt their lead. But, back-to-back first place finishes from Haley Overgaard and Madyson Perry in the 100 free and 500 free, respectively, got CL back within striking distance.

Becker’s relay teams finished out the win for them, as they grabbed the big points in the 200 and 400 free relays. Ellie Undem mixed a first place finish in the 100 backstroke, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Becker’s depth.

“We had a lot of great performances in the meet,” first year Head Coach Amanda Husfeldt said. She highlighted the winners and that the Wildcats can build off of those results as the season wears on.
