Mounds View Triangular The Vikings wrestled in a triangular Wednesday, January 25 at Mounds View. They won over Mahtomedi 42-39 in a close match, and were crushed by the hosts 75-6.
There were 12 contested weights against Mahtomedi, the highest number of contested weights in a dual meet for the Vikings this season. The Vikings took a 24-6 lead after the first five weights, with pins by Jack Baker (106), Ethan Kester (120), Colin Duvall (126), and Michael Thao. After losing the next two weights by a forfeit and a decision, Tanner Cummings (152) and Emmit Hansen (160) each pinned their opponents, and the Vikings led 36-15 after the 160-pound match. The Zephyrs won the next three matches, all by pin, to cut the Viking lead to 36-33. But Mahtomedi didn’t field a wrestler at 220, and Austin Buehring was awarded the win by forfeit, which gave the Vikings an insurmountable 42-33 lead heading into the final match.
