If you ever wanted to see 100 points scored in a high school football game, you came close to getting your wish last Friday night at Buffalo High School, as the Wildcats and the Buffalo Bison combined to score 97 points.  Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Buffalo scored the lion’s share of those points.  Bison quarterback Adrian Bouman lived up to his well-deserved hype, throwing for 458 yards and six touchdowns to lead Buffalo to a 62-35 win over the Wildcats.  The teams battled back and forth in the first half, with Buffalo scoring twice in the last two minutes to take a 35-28 lead into halftime.  They pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Wildcats 27-7.  Buffalo improved to 5-2 on the season, while the Wildcats dropped to 2-5.

St. Francis spoils Chisago Lakes' homecoming with 28-7 drubbing
Despite their 2-3 record going into last Friday’s homecoming game with the St. Francis Fighting Saints, the Wildcats had played well overall and given themselves a chance to win in each of the season’s first five games.  But the Wildcats struggled from the outset against the ball-control offense and aggressive defense of the Saints, and the Saints came away from the Chisago Lakes High School football field with a 28-7 win that didn’t seem that close.  The game was played in a fine mist that fell throughout the game before an overflow cloud of over 1,500 people.

Another heartbreaking defeat for CL, as Rogers storms back
For the Rogers Royals, last Friday night’s Homecoming game couldn’t have had a better script.  Having scored with 2:22 left to cut the Wildcat lead to 9-7, the Royals needed to successfully execute an onside kick in order to have a chance to win.  All the Wildcats had to do seal the win was to recover the onside kick.  The Rogers kicker drove the ball hard into the ground to the right.  As it skittered towards the right sideline, two Wildcats had a shot at it but could not secure the ball.  The Royals fell on it at the Wildcat 38-yard line.  Rogers drove to the Wildcat 24-yard line and, with 44 seconds left in the game, Bjorn Charles kicked a 41-yard field goal to give the Royals a 10-9 lead.  The Wildcats failed to move the ball on their ensuing possession and the Royals came away with their first win of the season.
