Chisago Lakes starts out hot in girls soccer
Chisago Lakes 2, Hermantown 0
The Wildcat girls’ soccer team kicked off their season against the Hermantown Hawks, perennial Class A soccer powerhouse of the north.  The Wildcats came out quick, confident and in control.  They consistently controlled play by making excellent runs and anticipating passes.  In the 34th minute, Estefani Hanson trapped a rebounded shot and made a quick pass across the Hermantown defense to Allison Glenna, who buried the ball in the back of the net to put the Cats up 1-0. In the second half, the Hawks came out looking for the equalizer.  But the Wildcat midfield and defense stood firm.  Wildcat midfielders Claire Meyer, Alison Glenna and Estefani Hanson commanded the field, maintained possession and orchestrated attack after attack.  Hawk goalkeeper Bailey Stokke did a good job defending numerous shots from the Cats.  However, in the 65th minute, Rayna Barrett – returning from a torn ACL last year – scored off of a free kick by Kellie Higgins giving the Wildcats a two-goal cushion.  .  From there the Cats comfortably kept the Hawks at bay for their first win and first shutout.  The game was played at Chisago Lakes High School on Saturday, August 24.
