Vikings learning to win with a target on their back
North Branch had to battle quite a bit to take out Mora on Friday, September 16, but they eventually came out on top 22-16 over the Mustangs and moved their record to 3-0 on the season.

'Cats lament another tough loss to Becker after late missed FG
Becker 14, Chisago Lakes 13
Trailing 14-13 to the Becker Bulldogs, the Wildcats went on an epic 23-play, 84-yard drive that took up more that half of the fourth quarter.  They were in a position to win with a 25-yard field goal attempt with 14 seconds remaining, but kicker Bryce Morley’s attempt sailed wide right, and the Wildcats fell 14-13.  The game was played Friday, September 16 at Becker High School.

Detzler shines on offense as NB wins two games
North Branch 3, Big Lake 2 (O.T.)
Drew Detzler had a hat trick on a soggy night, including the game winner in overtime, to lead the Viking boys’ soccer team to a 3-2 win over the Big Lake Hornets Thursday, September 15 at Big Lake.  Jose Flor was solid in the net, making 27 saves to help keep the Vikings in the game.

Addyson Barrett scored three goals in a seven-minute span straddling halftime to lead the Wildcats to a 6-0 shutout win over the Princeton Tigers Thursday, September 15 at Princeton.

Vikings top Islanders and Bulldogs in two game win streak
Big Lake 2, North Branch 0
The Big Lake Hornets scored once in each half to shut out the Viking girls’ soccer team 2-0 Thursday, September 15 at Big Lake High School.  The Hornets scored once in each half - off a corner kick in the first half and from a free kick in the second half.  Viking head coach Josh Kopp said “This game was pretty typical for our season.  We did well moving the ball and dominated possession, but we just couldn’t score.”

Wildcats get on a roll with three straight wins
Princeton 3, Chisago Lakes 0
The Princeton Tigers scored three goals in the first half and shut out the Wildcats boys’ soccer team 3-0 Thursday, September 15 at Princeton High School.  Wildcat head coach Matt Koehn said “We came out slow and couldn’t recover and that was kind of it.  They outplayed us, outworked us and, most importantly, put the ball in the back of the net.”

The Chisago Lakes girls swim and diving team put up a good fight in their season opener against Becker on Thursday, September 8, but they fell short to the Bulldogs  104-82.

Chisago Lakes sweeps boys and girls soccer doubleheader
A combination of youth and experience lifted the Wildcats to a 3-0 win over the Vikings Monday, September 12 at Chisago Lakes High School.  Eighth-grader Emma Knabe, freshman Ella Perrault and senior Ruby Dircks scored the goals for the Wildcats, with juniors Addyson Barrett and Madelyn Anderson picking up the assists.

Six turnovers doom Wildcats in Week Zero loss
Delano 27, Chisago Lakes 6
Turnovers spelled doom for the Wildcats in their season opener against the Delano Tigers.  They lost four fumbles and threw two interceptions on their way to a 27-6.  Fullback Evan LaValle was the workhorse for the Wildcats, carrying the ball 21 times for 115 yards and the Wildcats’ lone touchdown.

In the Wildcat boys’ soccer season opener at Hill-Murray on August 25, Davinsly Pearcy scored twice in the second half for the Pioneers as they shut out the Wildcats 2-0.  The Wildcats (0-2) were also shut out in their home opener, as they lost to the Mahtomedi Zephyrs 5-0 on Monday, August 29.

Going the distance at the Chisago Lakes Triathlon
Chisago City native Mason Hill (standing middle, with medal and bib) finished in 14th place in the Chisago Lakes Triathlon on Sunday, July 31, becoming the highest finishing local competitor in over a decade since Scandia’s Andrew Turner finished in ninth place in 2010. Hill had a large contingent of local supporters that showed up to cheer him on at the finish line at Paradise Park in Chisago City.

Bulldogs fall to Rum River then to Mora, but still improving

Bulldog starting pitcher Augie Brown gave the Bulldogs six solid innings against the Rum River Bandits Wednesday, July 13.  But the Bulldogs failed to take advantage of a couple of good scoring opportunities, and the result was a 5-1 loss to the Bandits.  The game was played at Larson Field in Cambridge.
