Turek leads Vikings to upset of state-ranked Gentry Academy
North Branch 6, Gentry Academy 3

SISTER ACT: The Devries sisters lead the charge for CL hockey

New fans attending the Wildcats girls hockey game against SFNB on Tuesday, January 7 at Chisago Lakes Arena may have thought they were hearing things when public address announcer Suzanne Gillespie announced the starting lineup and kept repeating the name “Devries”.  But they weren’t hearing things – the four Devries sisters – senior Claire, junior Grace, freshman Laine and seventh-grader Nora – were all in the starting lineup, along with their freshman cousin Malia Mckinnon and senior goalie Anna Kittleson.  And the team was led onto the ice at the beginning of the first period by yet another Devries sister, six-year-old Rose – who is just a bit too young to play for the Wildcats.

Monticello 3, North Branch 1
The highly anticipated section matchup between the Vikings and the Jeffrey Henrikson Show – a/k/a the Monticello Magic -  was not much of a game for the first two periods.  The Magic completely dominated the Vikings and the only thing that kept it close was the play of Viking goalie Jake Turek.  Monticello’s Henrikson had a hat trick in a two-and-a-half-minute stretch early in the second period.  The Vikings played a lot better in the third period but managed just one goal and lost to the Magic 3-1.
