North Branch Board hears of mechanic instruction at bus barn

North Branch administration and the 4.0 Student Services transportation provider are putting together a new program for students enrolled in mechanic programs at the high school.  As part of the latest contract with 4 Point-O there is a clause for providing workshop/lab space at the bus garage, for students enrolled in mechanics courses. The bus garage is directly across Grand Avenue from the high school;  and Finance Director Todd Tetzlaff remarked that students who have been driving to Pine Technical College in Pine City for lab learning will soon just have to go across the street.

The President of 4.0 Mike Hennek, attended the school board meeting last week as the contract for the next few years was being reviewed and approved.  He told Board members he started as a mechanic himself, and company officials are excited to be offering this.
Tetzlaff said a seperate agreement will be brought to the Board covering the courses and instructional fine points, such as if licensure is required. He mentioned that garage space expansion and improvement are part of the plan, and 4.0 has agreed to help fund some of this.
“A good faith effort is underway,” regarding developing the vocational educational opportunity, said Tetzlaff.

The School Board voted 5-0 (member LaValla was absent) to extend the transportation contract for six years.  4.0 has been the transportation services provider in North Branch since 2018.  (It also has the contract in Chisago lakes ISD 2144.)
Members are to expect expense increases in the contract due to “inflationary pressures,” and Tetzlaff particularly noted increases in cost and delivery timeframe for vehicles.

In other business:  the School Board got fundraising reports and learned the Domino’s pizza-school-days at the end of April brought in $648 in proceeds. The Boosterthon for all the elementary grades raised $8,000.  This will buy T-shirts for the Fun Run.

The middle school did not do any fundraising activity from November to now.

High school activities and athletics fundraising efforts brought in  $53,921.  High school fundraising includes snow shoveling, concession sales, mattress and wreath sales, working Hay Days and selling Viking Cards.

~ Upcoming dates to remember:  Summer School runs July 6 to 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meals are provided this summer.
~ Graduation for the Class of 2022 is Sunday, June 12, at 2 p.m.
