CL names new principals for primary and high school; MS position re-opens

Chisago Lakes School District has announced  the new principals that will be taking over at the Chisago Lakes High School and Primary School.

Unfortunately, there was a snag in the Middle School principal hiring of an external candidate, and the district has re-opened that search.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are continuing our search for a Middle School principal candidate,” a statement from the district said.“The position is currently posted and we are taking applications through Monday, July 18 with interviews being conducted the following week. It is expected that the new CLMS principal would start on August 1.”

High school brings in Tammy Yackley
Tammy Yackley has been named  Principal at Chisago Lakes High School.  She replaces Dave Ertl who is retiring after 30-plus years in education. Yackley’s first official day at Chisago Lakes High School was July 1.

Yackley brings over 26 years in education.

For the last three years, she has served as the Principal for Cedar Mountain Middle & High School. Prior to that she was a middle school teacher with New Ulm Public Schools.  Yackley is an instructional leader who will find resources to support teachers and staff. She understands what great teaching looks like and understands that it is not the same for all. She is a strong communicator, has high expectations, is genuine and contagiously positive.

When asked about her new position, Yackley stated, “I am so excited to be the new principal at Chisago Lakes High School. I have been welcomed by so many people, staff and community members alike. It is evident that Chisago Lakes is a great place to be. There are so many offerings and opportunities for our students. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and to get involved in the community. Go Wildcats!”

Dean Jennissen, Superintendent, said, “Tammy Yackley is a genuine, positive, well-rounded leader.  Ms. Yackley came through strongly in the interviews as a leader who has a wide skill set, creative ideas, a great worth ethic and much classroom teaching experience to go with her engaging personality.  We can’t wait to support her as she engages with the students, families and staff at CLHS.  Welcome Tammy!”

Asked about his retirement, Ertl stated, “Serving the students of Chisago Lakes High School has been such an honor and privilege.  I am humbled by the impact that over the 24 years at CLHS and 33 years in total, how the students have gone on to change their communities in their own positive ways.  The staff teams that I have served with are some of the most professional and student-centered individuals that I have worked side-by-side with.  CLHS has provided me with the personal and professional challenges and opportunities that I will be forever grateful for.  My wish is that the communities that makeup Chisago Lakes schools will always unite and support students without fail.”

Grice at Primary School
The district also announced Amy Grice has been named Principal at the Primary School, Chisago City.   She replaces Brenda Schell who is retiring after over  30 years in education. Grice started on July 1 as well.

Grice brings with her many years in education, 16 years as an Elementary teacher and most recently seven years  in Curriculum Coordination.

She is a clear decision maker and is supportive of staff, students and families when challenges arise.  Grice is a strong communicator, follows-through and focuses on growth and continuous improvement. She supports staff, encourages and recognizes staff and celebrates the “wins”.

Upon acceptance of her new position, she said, “I am delighted and humbled to serve as your next principal at Chisago Lakes Primary. It was evident the Primary School is filled with kindness, care, and a zest for learning. I look forward to getting to know and working together with students, staff, and families.”

Supt. Jennissen commented, “I am excited to welcome Ms. Amy Grice to the Wildcat team!  Ms. Grice stood out to our interview team as a positive, supportive, engaging and collaborative leader.  She will be a great leader for the Primary School and a great addition to our Admin Team and community.  Welcome Amy!”

Schell stated, “I will be completing my 32nd year in public education. My career began in Duluth Public Schools as an early elementary classroom teacher.  In 1996, I started teaching reading at the Middle School here in Chisago.  I worked as the curriculum and communications director for a couple of years before landing the best job in the world as the principal at the Primary School.  It has been my honor and pleasure to serve this school for the last 16 years.  I will miss the hard-working, dedicated professionals that come to school and give their all so that our students not only learn but leave here filled with wonderful memories and feeling loved and cared for.  Most of all, I will miss the daily smiles, spontaneous hugs, and joy that the children at Primary bring to my life.  I have been blessed to be a part of the Chisago Lakes team.“

Please join the School Board and Chisago Lakes School District in welcoming Yackley and Grice to their new positions and congratulating Ertl and Schell on their retirements.
