| Chisago Lakes School District spelling bee produces three winners |
The Chisago Lakes Area Schools District Spelling Bee took place at the CLHS Performing Arts Center. It was a two hour long affair that involved 24 spellers from 6th-8th grades. The winner of the Bee was an 8th grade student from the Middle School, Sophia Shuga – the championship word was “dissertation.” Sixth graders, Laney Gibbs and Noah Arndt took 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. Chisago Lakes Community Education also would like to thank the judges – Kevin Stenson, Matt Silver and Dani Strenke, for their undertaking. | Chisago Lakes/North Branch co-op robotics season kicks off |
The 2019 FIRST Robotics season kicked off Saturday, January 5, with the game reveal. Destination: Deep Space is the game and teams will need to load carriers and rockets with cargo (orange vinyl balls) and place hatch covers to secure the cargo. To start the game, teams will be blinded by a sandstorm and have to drive their robots using only their cameras. Team 3038, a cooperative team between North Branch and Chisago Lakes, now has 6 1/2 weeks to build their robot to play the game The team will be competing in the 10,000 Lakes Regional at the University of Minnesota in March. | Pine Tech year-free scholarship expands to North Branch | Graduates in the Class of 2019 from North Branch High School now have an opportunity too good to pass-up. The North Branch district is now included in the Kick Start Scholarship program, with Pine Technical and Community College in Pine City. To qualify the student’s family should be eligible for Free and Reduced Meal Programs. They do not have to be enrolled and using the benefit, they just need to qualify. | MN Restaurant Association Presents Awards Prostart Educator Of Excellence |
Marilyn Fagerness became a family and consumer science (FACS) teacher in the fall of 1990, after five years of full-time subbing at North Branch Area High School. Four years ago, when most people would choose to start gliding towards retirement, Fagerness took on one of her biggest professional challenges: implementing the ProStart program at North Branch Area High School.
