Local authorities are working the Towards Zero Deaths (TZD) extra manpower enforcement, a special program that goes until September, to crack down on offenses behind the wheel. Several people holding cell phones to their ear were cited, some of their excuses included “I was in Wisconsin and didn’t realize I’d crossed the border.” Or, “I thought it was okay if I have it on speaker phone.”

Area agencies went to the scene of a fiery crash on Hwy. 8, about 5:40 p.m. August 18 to assist with traffic control and injured parties. The incident was at Valleywiew Road and Hwy 8, outside of Taylors Falls. State Patrol reports LifeLink III transported a female who was extricated from a Durango vehicle. August 19 theft of a Cub Cadet mower and trailer reported from an address in Nessel Township, Rush Lake Trail.
A minor-aged victim was found in a garage in Chisago City. The victim was not conscious and was transported by ground ambulance. This was reported about 1:49 p.m.
August 20 a toddler-aged child was spotted on Hwy. 8 and Linden Street in Lindstrom alone, about 5:50 p.m. The youngster was brought home by police and Child Protective Services were alerted.
August 21 a carbon monoxide alarm at an address on Park Place, Chisago City, sounded. Windows were opened and authorities found no obvious malfunction. No personal injury reported. Incident dispatched about 2:20 a.m.
August 22 Lakes Area Police traffic-stopped a motorcycle that was reported as stolen. The 25-year-old male driver was arrested.
August 23 a bike rider was hit by a vehicle, around 6:30 p.m. near Lofton Avenue and Hwy. 8. No injuries, rider declined transport.
A party on Kale Avenue in Lent Township was the scene of a serious injury assault, called in about 3 a.m. Deputies found a male who party attendees said was slugged, lost consciousness and the alleged suspect then kicked him in the head. Suspect was cited for assault. The injured party was not transported.
