Lakes Area Police were dealing with multiple incidents related to folks getting back outdoors and the hazards associated with that. Among the calls over the week was a three-year old found unsupervised near Highway 8 and Park Street in Lindstrom, an officer stayed with the child until a relative happened by...there was the reported loss of two fingers to a chainsaw, on Maple St. Dog complaints and graffiti rounded out the seasonal incidents.
Also, a bank staff member alerted Lakes Area Police to large sums of money being withdrawn by an elderly customer. Upon further investigation the person was the victim of a scam. Authorities are working to retrieve the losses.
Monday, April 12
A fatal accident, involving a bike rider crossing a highway near Monticello hit by a semi truck driven by a Stanchfield area man, was reported about 7:43 a.m.
State Patrol is investigating. Preliminary reports are that the Peterbilt driven by Andrew Reinke, 54, Stanchfield was at a stoplight, turning onto northbound Highway 25 (near I-94) and the truck hit the bicyclist in the crosswalk.
Sunday, April 11 County sheriff personnel were involved in a brief pursuit that started at the scene of a hit and run, in Nessel Township, about 9:20 p.m. Chase went into Pine County and back south on I-35 when suspect was back in Chisago County and pulled over. Charges pending for fleeing, assault, and possession.
April 6 a catalytic convertor was cut off a vehicle parked at the West Rush Lake access. Theft was sometime between 9 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m.
Lightning is thought to have sparked a grass fire off Karmel Avenue at School Lake, shortly after midnight. Area firefighters were dispatched and no structure damage was reported.
About 3 p.m. a deputy used his extinguisher to put out a fire started from a sparking electrical box, on Olinda and Oldfield Avenue. DNR put the finishing touches on the still hot grasses.
April 5, a two vehicle crash at Morgan and Chisago Boulevard, called in about 5:44 p.m. Two were taken to Fairview Medical Center and two persons were checked out and cleared at the scene. No report available.
