Chisago Lakes School Board Candidate Filing Statements

I’m Sarah Aadland and I’m running for re-election to my seat on the Chisago Lakes School Board.

My husband Joe and I moved our three kids to the Chisago Lakes area nearly ten years ago in part because of its reputation for strong schools and a thriving, small-town community. I grew up on a farm in rural South Dakota where the local school played a powerful role in connecting the community, and this area quickly felt like home. As a parent and as a professional in the field of service learning and family education, supporting our schools became a natural priority. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed volunteering in the classroom. I’ve supported and at various times lead fundraising and outreach efforts with Taylors Falls Parents for Education. For several yearMy s I created and led a kindness club for fourth and fifth graders, bringing the service-learning materials I create for Doing Good Together, a Minnesota nonprofit, to students interested in making a difference.

Last summer, I stepped up to serve a vacated term on the school board, in a move that felt like the right next step in supporting our schools by applying my experience in parent education, nonprofit management, and public policy to the challenges and opportunities facing the district. I’ve worked hard to deepen my understanding of the finances, policies, and history of the district. I’ve taken advantage of every relevant Minnesota School Board Association training. I’ve broadened my connections with staff, students, and the community, reaching out with questions time and again, as unfamiliar issues surface month-to-month and week-to-week.

I’m honored to be endorsed by Chisago Lakes Educate Minnesota (CLEM), the Chisago Lakes teachers. Feel free to reach out with any questions about my experience on the board over the past year, my background, or my hopes for the district going forward: [email protected] 2144.org.

I am asking for your vote so I may continue to serve the district and work to support our teachers and ensure all students have the opportunity to thrive in our community.

My name is Jackie Harris-Rude and I am running for Chisago Lakes School Board.  I was born in Minnesota and live in North Chisago Lakes Township with my husband, Marc. I am a mom of five and grandmother of fifteen. My work experience includes 20 years at Prudential Financial in administration and owning a small business for 11 years. My volunteer experience includes Director of a Homeless Coalition in Florida, chairing an annual fundraising breakfast for Totino-Grace High School, and numerous local committees and events elsewhere and in Chisago County.

I am running for school board because I am proud of our District’s reputation for excellence and want to support policies that maintain our excellent standing in Minnesota.  I’m concerned about the educational needs and well-being of our children, the needs of our teachers and support staff, and parents struggling to raise their children.

As a board member my goals include ensuring the School Board provides Budget transparency; providing a safe environment for our children and staff; hiring and retaining excellent teachers and staff; building trust between parents and teachers; and ensuring our children receive the best education for a success life.

Please vote for me on November 8!

I am running for the Chisago Lakes School Board. From talking with people in the community I want to remind you I represent you and will do so on the school board.  I will put teachers and students at the forefront; meaning I will push education reading, writing and math. I will also keep the district fiscally responsible.  As a small business owner I know that you can’t spend more than you make.

My wife and I moved here in 2014 and have three little kids. Let’s get this community back to the ways of family, education, being held accountable and getting to know your neighbor. A strong community makes great schools.  I want to thank you for your vote.

My name is Jen Penzenstadler and I am happy to announce that I am running for Chisago Lakes School Board. My husband and I have raised three daughters on our farm in Chisago City. I have worked as an office manager for 28 years and we also operate an electrical contracting business. I have taken on many volunteer positions along the way including Chisago Lakes PTO treasurer, Chisago Lakes School Finance Committee member, Chisago County Extension Committee, Founding member of the Chisago Lakes Youth Livestock Foundation, Chisago County Fairboard secretary, and treasurer for the MN Federation of County Fairs. I have also invested many hours into Chisago County’s youth development through my positions as a Chisago County 4-H management board member, club leader and volunteer.

I am running for the Chisago Lakes School Board because I have a passion for youth and our community. Now that my daughters have graduated and moved on to adulthood, I have the time to give back to our community which I have been part of for almost 30 years. My vision is to see that parents have the support to grow students into successful healthy adults alongside teachers and staff who are engaged and fulfilled in their careers in a safe environment. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders and we need to invest in them. My personal skills in finance, management, collaboration, problem solving, forward thinking and my passion for youth would be a great addition to the school board. I am honored to be endorsed by the Chisago Lakes Education Minnesota (CLEM) - Chisago Lakes Teachers.

I believe that as community members we need to make an investment in our students’ futures and provide them with the educational opportunities for success in college or career paths. Career and Technical Education programming in the schools help our students learn the skills they need to pursue careers. I support this programming and have encouraged many Chisago Lakes students over the years to take the path to apprenticeship programs. I have earned the endorsement of several building trades organizations including St. Paul Building and Construction Trades Council, MN Pipe Trades Association, Plumbers Local 34, Operating Engineers 49, IBEW Locals 110 and 292, Pipefitters Local 455 and Sprinkler Fitters Local 417. The Chisago Lakes School District is already great and I want to be part of making it even better. If you have any additional questions or comments, feel free to email me at jen [email protected]

As a graduate of Chisago Lakes High School, I knew I had the support of our community. I’ve continued to experience that support as a local business owner, and I am grateful for the relationships I’ve developed through the Chamber, my church, and other local organizations. I love the support this community has shown our schools, and I want to do what I can to strengthen the relationships between our schools and community members. I believe trust must be strengthened so our schools can thrive.

As a small manufacturing company, I support work stills training and exposure to the trades within our schools. I myself benefited from phenomenal shop teachers and real-world work experience. I’ve had the privilege of speaking at our schools’ Work Skills Day  and am honored to be part of a district that imparts values like hard work and personal responsibility alongside providing high quality education.

I want to do what I can to support our teachers, janitorial staff, food service workers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and other staff members by appreciating their contributions and making sure they have what they need to be successful as they do the honorable work of serving our students day in and day out. Their contributions do not go unnoticed.

It would be an honor to have your support, and most importantly, as community members, let’s continue to support our schools.

I am Cory Spencer and I am running for the Chisago Lakes School District Board of Education. As a long time resident and public servant in the Chisago Lakes Area I have enjoyed the opportunities that I have had to engage with the schools and the area communities. I was a school resource officer assigned to the Chisago Lakes Schools from 2009-2018 when I was promoted to patrol sergeant at the Lakes Area Police Department. During my time a school liaison officer I served as president of the Minnesota Juvenile Officers Association and was the recipient of local, regional, and national awards for excellence in service in working with youth.

My greatest accomplishment during my time as school resource officer was implementing district wide active threat response and reunification policies and procedures, and training staff and students best practices to mitigate threats to personal safety. It was a collaborative effort with school administration, school staff, community leaders, and other public safety professionals to develop and implement these policies and procedures for each of the district’s campuses.

I am running for school board to continue my long time service to community. I have supported our school community in other roles as well. I am a substitute teacher, a school bus driver, a softball coach, and a high school sports announcer and official. I believe in giving back. A strong school creates a strong community and the two are codependent. I believe in transparency, doing what is best for the students and staff, and working collaboratively with stakeholders. I would be honored to receive your support during the general election on November 8, 2022.
